We here at Mulberry Street like back yards. We like finding vintage metal furniture to restore in back yards. We love seeing our restored lawn furniture in back yards and hanging out there. One thing we don’t like to see in back yards, however, is a lonely, unsheltered dog. And there are many of them. Forgotten. Cold. Wet. Chained. When it rains or snows, I think of them. I think of them when it is hot and dry. So you can understand how elated I was to learn of PETA’s (www.peta.org) Angels for Animals program to shelter back yard dogs and to try to educate their owners about taking good care of their animals. I shelter a dog every Christmas through PETA, either in honor of a dog lover in my life or just for my own satisfaction. If there is a dog lover on your holiday list, consider giving an Angels for Animals sponsorship…a gift that will continue giving for a lifetime…a dog’s lifetime. During this season when some will be dressing their dogs on Christmas morning and giving gifts to their pets, let’s remember the unfortunate back yard dogs for whom Christmas is just another hard day…but thanks to you, a better day.
