I sat on my porch on my vintage Barcalo glider today with my cats. It was 70 degrees. Hard to believe after last week’s weather. One more spring approaching. I wonder how many springs my old glider has seen. I think about all the events it has witnessed, all the moments and conversations – some joyful, others painful, but most just ordinary, everyday happenings. Other people just like me have sat there, maybe with their cats, their children or their neighbors, on an unseasonably warm day in February, reminded that spring will eventually get here.Visualizing what needs to be done in the yard. What should be planted, what should be removed. Looking forward to cleaning the porch and making a fresh start. My glider is more than just a place to sit. No question it is comforting and comfortable. But it is also thought-provoking. It has its own energy from former lives I know nothing about that it somehow shares with me. I feel honored to have it on my porch and I feel good to know that my son may someday have it on his, and on and on. A witness to more seasons. More memories. More comforting moments. Different porches. That is my dream for each of my gliders. That one will find its way to your family and your porch and on and on.
