The time is fast approaching for me to load up the truck with Mulberry Street vintage lawn furniture and head to Charlotte, North Carolina for the Southern Spring Home and Garden Show, March 3-7 (southernshows.com/sss). I will be in the Studio Cleary display area where landscape architect Ted Cleary (scla.carbonmade.com) has designed a fabulous mid-century garden and is featuring some Mulberry Street furniture as well as some really cool mid-century props like the 2-toned blue ’57 Chevy Bel-Air sedan in the driveway.
I will be there part time to meet and greet and to talk about some of my favorite things: Mulberry Street vintage outdoor furniture and outdoor living in general, porch living in particular. Ted will be giving a slide presentation on one of my favorite aspects of mid-century residential design…”how the interior and exterior spaces were so comfortably linked”. His talk is entitled “Seamless: the Mid-Century Modern Home and Its Garden”. Continue reading →

Snow on My Porch Glider!
February 17th, 2010 — All Posts
I have never seen snow on my vintage metal porch glider before, but the other night it actually snowed at the coast in Charleston, SC! It is such an unusual site to see snow in the marsh. We were going out on the porch all evening to confirm that what we were seeing was actually true. And there it was…snow on my glider, snow in the marsh. I even saw pictures on television of snow on the beach. Now that is just wrong to see snow on the beach here is South Carolina. Of course, it was all gone by the end of the next day.
But we enjoyed it while it lasted. Now I’m really ready for winter to be gone… to clean the porch off, wipe down my vintage porch furniture, put the plants out and resume my porch life. It’s not supposed to be this wintry in Charleston, South Carolina.
Front Porch Ideas and More

If you’re thinking about doing anything at all to a porch or outdoor space…adding screens or blinds, designing or renovating, decorating, entertaining, adding accessiblity features, or if you just like to look at other people’s beautiful porches, you must visit www.front-porch-ideas-and-more.com.
This is a resource site like no other. There is so much information here that you will probably not have to search elsewhere. I found it looking for kindred vintage lawn furniture spirits. Mary and Dave do a great job of covering all the bases. And you can tell they have a passion for porches. As Mary puts it,” Our site is a labor of love. As Dave and I looked at homes over the years and strolled through neighborhoods, we have always been drawn to charming front porches. We’ve lived in homes with big porches, small porches and no porch (sad!). We once purchased a home just because it had a screened porch. And that was a terrific decision.” I couldn’t agree more.
