About Mulberry Street

A few years ago, I purchased and restored my first vintage glider. As a child I had a lot of experience with gliders on my parents’ and grandparents’ porches. I have known for years the comfort and pleasure that vintage outdoor furniture brings to people. As I have found and restored these beautiful gems from

America’s past, it seems that just about everyone has had some sort of emotional connection to this type of furniture, either personally or through family members. I am also finding that young people who have no direct experience with it are touched by its beauty and design.

I began my active pursuit of outdoor porch and patio furniture from the 30s through the 60s and opened my business,

Mulberry Street

, about 3 years ago. Both my parents and grandparents lived on

Mulberry Street

and since that is where I first loved this furniture, I thought it fitting to honor the place where it all began. The vintage metal furniture available at

has witnessed years of memories. I feel that the story of this furniture is as important as the transformation and restoration it goes through. I believe it is important to preserve it because of its social and industrial history, not to mention its design roots. And also because of the memories it evokes and can continue to create wherever people gather. Whether or not you have memories of this furniture, your experience with it will be transformative. It will invite you to sit awhile, to enjoy its gentle movement, to engage with the people around you in a meaningful, relaxed way. It will encourage you to slow down and live a little.When I first started restoring this furniture, some people said, “It’s not worth saving”. I disagree. I am preserving it for present and future generations. I am keeping these chairs and gliders out of landfills and reuniting furniture, families and friends just as it was intended. It is definitely worth saving.
